Edoardo Miroglio Wine Cellar was established
in 2002 in the region of Elenovo village –
about 15 km from the city of Nova Zagora.
Dating back to the Thracian times, the only
trade in the region has been vines and
wines, the recipes of which have been passed
from father to son, generation after
generation. |

In 2002 Edoardo Miroglio, a well known Italian producer
of textile products and wines, discovered in the
Thracian region of Bulgaria the perfect soil and
climatic conditions for production of quality wines.
After elaborate analyses and soil tests in the
micro-region of Elenovo village, he found that the
terroir of Elenovo is unique for Bulgaria and is equally
good for cultivating both red and white grape varieties.
As a result of this, he decided to establish there one
of the best modern wineries in the region.
So far, almost 22 million euros have been invested in
Edoardo Miroglio wine cellar. The winery released its
first production in October 2005. A team of Italian and
Bulgarian specialists, headed by the worldwide
recognized oenologist, Mr Marco Monchiero, manages the
whole process. During the period 2004-2008, the total
number of workers engaged in the creation and
cultivation of the vineyards in the region of Elenovo
village numbered 130. During the harvest, over 200
people are employed.
The winery itself is an intriguing combination of
ancient-looking exterior naturally blending with the
environment, and modern technologies and
state-of-the-art equipment. The cellar is surrounded by
vineyards spreading on rolling hills, a natural lake and
green lawns, which provide excellent conditions for
development of wine-tourism. A luxury guest house with a
restaurant and a tasting room facilitates this feature
and contributes to the memorable impressions from the
winery. The internal design and furnishing of the guest
house represent a unique symbiosis of traditional
Bulgarian and antique Italian styles.
As of the present moment, on the extremely suitable soil
of Elenovo, over 210 hectares of vineyards of elite
French and Bulgarian grape varieties have been planted.
Some of the varieties cultivated by Edoardo Miroglio
wine cellar are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah,
Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay,
Muscat Ottonel, Gewurz Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc,
Mavrud, Rubin, and Melnik 55.
The annual production capacity of Edoardo Miroglio Wine
Cellar is approximately 1 million liters of wine. The
technological cycle encompasses all technological
operations - from primary grape processing to wine
bottling. The main equipment of Edoardo Miroglio wine
cellar has been supplied by leading Italian and French
producers of winemaking equipment and technology. The
winery is equipped also with Bulgarian-made stainless
steel vinification tanks “Rodina”, which are widely used
in many European countries. The management and quality
control of the production is performed by a
state-of-the-art laboratory. The process of ageing and
maturing takes place in high-quality French oak barrels,
which are essential to the style of the wines produced.
The winery is specialized in the production of quality
white, rosé and red wines, as well as sparkling wine
(Classis Method) – white and rosé. The three major
brands produced by the winery are: EDOARDO MIROGLIO
(premium brand), SANT’ ILIA and SAINT ILIA ESTATE
(commercial brands). EM (Edoardo Miroglio) is the
premium brand and it is mostly distributed in selected
hotels and restaurants, as well as specialized wine
stores, while Sant’Ilia and Saint Ilia Estate are
commercial brands designated for the domestic and export
markets.
